(Gus) Jian Zhu

(Gus) Jian Zhu (born in 1988) is a Chinese wine educator, critic, author, journalist, consultant and Master of Wine[1][2], the first Chinese to achieve this accreditation[3][4]. He is also elected the future 50 in the wine industry by WSET and IWSC[5].
Biography
(Gus) Jian Zhu is the first Chinese Master of Wine (MW)[1][2][3][4], awarded in 2019. He is also a well-known wine educator, author, journalist, and consultant. He is selected as the Future 50 in the wine industry by WSET and IWSC[5].
Zhu was born in Nanjing China. He was educated in China Agricultural University, major in Horticultural science. In 2015, Zhu moved to the United States, where he got his Master's degree in Viticulture and Enology from UC Davis. During his time in the United States, Zhu works as a contributing editor for the major wine publication, such as The World Atlas of Wine, 7th edition. He also published articles in the Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture[6].
Zhu devotes himself proactively to wine education both in the United States and China. He is an experienced WSET educator with Napa Valley Wine Academy in Napa[7], USA and Dragon Phoenix Wine Consulting[8] in Beijing, China. Zhu is also a tasting tutor with WSET Online Classroom. Besides, Zhu contributed enormous translation projects, i.e. translation and proof-reading of WSET materials and Napa Valley Rocks education material, articles for wine magazines including DRiNK, La Revue du Vin France (Chinese edition), etc. into Chinese. He also did bilingual translation at various wine seminars in China.
Zhu is a frequent judge at wine competitions such as Wine 100 Competition for Wine in China magazine[9]. He is also a popular presenter and trainer for trade bodies, university students, corporate and private clients.
Zhu now is the founder of Gus Zhu Wine Consulting, focus on wine education and wine consultant for both the United States and China.
Personal Life
Zhu currently lives with his partner in Texas, USA.
